Job Summary

The Para Professional will work under the supervision of the highly qualified classroom teacher and the School Principal to assist in implementing instruction and related services. This includes providing instructional assistance, guiding additional practice opportunities, re-teaching, and monitoring behavior. The Para Professional will assist the instructional team to meet the needs of all students, building relationships and collaborating with team members to identify student needs and develop plans for next steps.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement school and district policies and procedures;
  • Establish and maintain working relations with colleagues;
  • Assist teachers in their teaching duties and other general responsibilities, such as organizing teaching materials and offering reinforcement activities;
  • Reinforce lessons by reviewing material one-on-one and in small groups with students;
  • Prepare the class before commencement of session, preparing presentations and projects, exhibiting visual displays and demonstrations, documenting and reviewing system data;
  • Examine and score test papers or class assignments;
  • Provide support to students by uplifting their academic and emotional needs;
  • Keep records, attendance, and progress of students and provide feedback to parents;
  • Assist students who need additional help learning a specific concept;
  • Perform clerical tasks as needed, such as maintaining student attendance records, filing student information and progress reports, creating newsletters and articles;
  • Recognize students with learning disabilities and inform in-class teachers;
  • Assist teachers in providing additional attention to special needs students;
  • Ensure proper care and upkeep of educational materials, equipment, and supplies;
  • Participate in planning sessions with the classroom teacher;
  • Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and perseverance in dealing with challenging learning, behavioral, family, and classroom situations;
  • Provide strategic instruction within the classroom for students who are in need of support learning core curriculum;
  • Provide support and supervision of students as assigned (during transitions, in special classes, during lunch, etc.);
  • Demonstrate a willingness to assume all responsibilities assigned which are appropriate for the position;
  • Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom;
  • Assist in the administration and scoring of assessments used to monitor individual progress;
  • Contribute to a culture of professionalism among team members;
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Principal;

Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field or completed two (2) years of college (60 credit hours) or Para Professional certified or willing to obtain a Para Professional certification;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook;
  • Minimum Two (2) years of experience;
  • Evidence of working knowledge and comfort level with instructional technology;
  • Experience working with at-risk student populations;
  • Proven experience as a teacher working with student populations in some capacity;
