Job Summary

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission is seeking a highly skilled External Affairs Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will serve as a policy advisor to the Public Utilities Commissioners, agency leadership, and staff, providing expert guidance on complex policy matters involving electricity, natural gas, energy facilities, and telecommunications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the agency's legislative and intergovernmental priorities
  • Lead the development of communication strategies to engage with legislative chairs, members, and staff, as well as other governmental bodies and stakeholders
  • Track and provide guidance on the agency's external and stakeholder engagement
  • Collaborate with agency staff to develop and implement policies and programs that promote the public interest
Requirements
  • Five years of professional experience in state utility regulation, policy development, or a related field
  • Demonstrated understanding of state utility regulation processes, issues, and legal frameworks
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to various audiences
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including Commissioners, legislators, and agency staff
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in public policy, political science, or a related field
  • Experience working at a state utility regulatory agency or regulated utility
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
