Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fleet Mechanic II to join our team at the City of Flint, MI. As a key member of our fleet maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing advanced work in the repair, maintenance, and modification of heavy motorized equipment, heavy and light trucks, and automobiles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced work in the repair, maintenance, and modification of heavy motorized equipment, heavy and light trucks, and automobiles.
  • Diagnose mechanical defects in pickup trucks, automobiles, dump trucks, tractors, motor graders, street sweepers, forklifts, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, scrapers, excavators, and other diesel and gas-powered construction equipment.
  • Perform needed repairs and complete approved work, ensuring that clearances, fittings, adjustments, settings, replacements, and repairs are correct and precise in accordance with existing technical manuals, specifications, or instructions.
  • Repair and maintain heavy equipment such as bulldozers, road graders, rollers, front-end loaders, backhoes, and similar power shovels.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness, repair shop equipment as necessary, and assist in new employee orientation as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience performing heavy equipment and mechanical repairs.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent number of coursework hours) in Automotive Technology and two (2) years of experience as a Mechanic.
  • Certification as a Specialty Mechanic in all categories of heavy-duty truck repair as defined by the Michigan Department of State (Categories include Engine Repair-Gasoline, Engine Repair-Diesel, Drive Train, Brakes & Braking Systems, Suspension & Steering Systems, and Electrical Systems.) OR equivalent qualification/certification in a branch of the United States Military Service (copy of DD-214 must be provided as proof of qualification).
  • Possession of a valid State of Michigan Driver's License.
  • Possession of a valid State of Michigan CDL with class B endorsement or higher OR to obtain within 6 months of appointment.
