Job Summary

The Emergency Department Technician plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in our fast-paced Emergency Department. As a key member of our team, you will assist with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Your responsibilities will include assisting with orthopedic procedures, performing vital sign assessments, and providing patient education on the application of orthopedic devices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with orthopedic procedures as delegated by physicians, RN Team Lead, and other health team members.
  • Perform vital sign assessments and documentation under the direct supervision of a RN.
  • Complete 12 EKGs and apply orthopedic devices, including traction and OCL splints.
  • Provide patient education on the application of orthopedic devices, crutch walking, and other related topics.
  • Assist with wound care, ENT, orthopedic procedures, eye/ear irrigations, suture/staple removal, foley leg bag application, c-spine immobilization, and bladder scanning.
  • Provide assistance in the evolution and maintenance of supplies pertaining to the Emergency Department.
  • Assist with orientation, training, and quality assurance activities for the Emergency Department.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum one year of patient care experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support certification required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification through the Arizona Department of Health Services, or Licensed Nursing Assistance (LNA) credential through the Arizona Board of Nursing required.
