Position Overview

The General Maintenance Engineer is responsible for executing preventive maintenance and corrective repairs across various facilities and equipment. Under close supervision, this role involves monitoring building systems and their operational performance while utilizing a range of trade skills including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, roofing, and HVAC systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine repairs and preventive maintenance as assigned, along with additional tasks as directed by management.
  • Evaluate work orders, estimating the time and materials required for completion.
  • Assist in the installation and modification of building equipment systems.
  • Support troubleshooting and repairs of plumbing systems, kitchen equipment, roofing, drainage, and HVAC systems.
  • Maintain lighting systems throughout the facilities, including cleaning fixtures and replacing bulbs.
  • Perform carpentry tasks, furniture assembly, and locksmith duties as necessary.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, coordinating additional assistance when required.
  • Participate in a weekly on-call rotation as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with at least one year of relevant experience or training.
  • Ability to understand and interpret instructions, correspondence, and memos, with a capacity to ask clarifying questions for better comprehension.
  • Competence in writing routine reports and correspondence, along with responding to common inquiries from staff and supervisors.
  • Capability to follow general instructions and resolve problems in standard situations, requiring basic analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in using a personal computer and/or PDA for work order systems, email, and training, with basic skills in Microsoft Office Outlook. Physical demands include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting/carrying heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
