This position is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of general and special freight in various forms.
Key Responsibilities- Operate Vehicles Safely: Ensure compliance with all established health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Conduct Vehicle Inspections: Perform thorough pre-trip, mid-trip, and post-trip inspections on vehicles being operated, reporting any discrepancies immediately.
- Load and Unload Freight: Load and unload trucks and containers, lift materials, and identify, label, count, receive, and issue freight.
- Secure Cargo: Ensure that cargo is properly secured for transport in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Operate Box Truck: Operate a box truck to pick up and deliver customer freight in various locations.
- Prepare Documents: Prepare documents for pick-up and provide information to dispatchers.
- Comply with Regulations: Pack and/or ship materials in compliance with DOT and hazardous materials regulations.
- Maintain Vehicle: Maintain good housekeeping standards with a focus on the care and custody of materials.
- Communicate Effectively: Prioritize and complete day-to-day activities as assigned, maintain telephone or PeopleNet contact with terminal dispatchers to receive instructions.
- Perform Emergency Repairs: May be required to perform emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, light bulbs, and tire chains.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: Two to three years of driving experience required.
- License: CDL Class B required.
- Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
- Instruction Following: Follows instructions, responds to management direction, takes responsibility for own actions, completes tasks on time or communicates alternate plans.
- Customer Focus: Treats people with respect, keeps commitments, inspires trust, works with integrity and ethically, upholds organizational values.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Time Management: Must be able to prioritize daily tasks and assignments, multitask, and have excellent time management skills.
- Adverse Weather Conditions: Must be able to drive in adverse weather conditions and in ice and snow, with the ability to chain-up.
