About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Pediatric Behavioral Health Technician to join our team at Intermountain Healthcare.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will provide direct patient care, develop rapport with patients, and facilitate patient/caregiver safety in a behavioral health setting. They will also gather critical data to inform the treatment team, implement interventions as recommended, and work collaboratively with the team to ensure patient safety and overall milieu management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain patient safety through constant surveillance, visual safety rounds, room checks, and 1:1 caregiver/patient observations.
  • Create a safe, consistent, and supportive environment by following established interventions and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with the team to manage individual patient behavior and maintain a calm demeanor when dealing with physically and mentally aggressive patients.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families, lead diversionary activities, and facilitate various group content including recreational activities, goal setting, relaxation, skill building, and psycho-educational sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, utilizing a team approach, and address patients displaying agitated and/or aggressive behaviors.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • A high school graduate or equivalency is preferred, along with post-high school education in social work, psychology, sociology, family studies, or a health sciences field.
  • Experience working with behavioral health and/or chemically dependent patients, preferably providing behavioral healthcare services to child/adolescent patient populations.
  • A valid Utah driver's license for programs requiring psych techs to transport patients.
