Position Overview: The Town is looking for a skilled Utility Line Technician to join the Water and Sewer Maintenance division. This role involves proficient work in the installation, repair, and upkeep of water and sewer pipelines. Extended hours may be necessary for emergency situations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work Schedule:
  • Monday through Friday
  • 7:00am to 3:00pm
  • Rotating On-Call Shifts
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace utility lines and related components.
  • Conduct water and sewer taps and service connections.
  • Install water meters and perform flushing of sewer lines and manholes.
  • Locate and test water and sewer lines.
  • Install, test, and repair water meters and fire hydrants.
  • Conduct routine bacterial and CL2 tests; add necessary chemicals to sewer lines.
  • Perform minor landscaping on properties post-completion of work.
  • Operate trucks, tractors, backhoes, and other mechanical equipment as needed.
  • Be available for on-call duties as assigned.
  • Complete work requests generated by other departments.
  • Assist in snow and ice removal operations.
  • Wear steel-toed safety boots at all times while on duty.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum one (1) year of general work experience; experience in water and sewer line work is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • CDL Class B with tanker and air brake endorsement required at the time of hire or within six (6) months of employment.
  • Flagging certification required within six (6) months of employment.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of water and sewer lines.
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to follow directions accurately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and coworkers.
  • Ability to work extended hours under various environmental conditions.
Work Environment:
  • Work is primarily performed outdoors, subjecting the worker to various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and potential hazards.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens may occur, requiring the use of specialized protective equipment.
Physical Demands:
  • This position requires heavy work, involving the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
  • Tasks include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for operating machinery and vehicles and ensuring the accuracy of work.
