Job Summary

The University of Georgia is seeking a part-time AmeriCorps member to serve as a 4-H Youth Development Specialist in Morgan County. The successful candidate will provide 4-H programming directly to youth under the direction of the County Extension Agent. This includes planning, implementation, and delivery of programming, including in-school and after-school club meetings, camp, and other 4-H programming delivered in the county. The member will also assist with volunteer recruitment and transportation of youth. Additionally, the member will assist the AmeriCorps State Program Coordinator in collecting needed impact data by administering surveys to youth and entering data into provided spreadsheets. The member will comply with AmeriCorps standards, including monthly reporting, monthly webinars, and other essential trainings. This is a part-time position serving for 10 months, from September 1 to August 31. The member will log a total of 1,700 hours, averaging 35 hours per week, depending on start date.

Responsibilities

Facilitate/teach 4-H in-school club meetings
Prepare students for 4-H Project Achievement
Attend 4-H Summer Camp
Design and implement community service projects
Assist with other 4-H base programming
Assist the 4-H Agent with day-to-day activities involved with providing direct services to youth, such as planning and development of 4-H programming
Provide transportation to youth
Support and provide leadership to the county 4-H Volunteer program: recruit, screen, train, and engage volunteers
Track and document data related to the AmeriCorps performance measures and complete monthly reports, supported by the AmeriCorps State Program Coordinator
Attend local, district, and state program activities and events alongside 4-H County Extension Coordinator

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent
Experience in program planning, delivery of youth development programs, and a basic knowledge of 4-H
Service-minded
Ability to perform the tasks necessary in planning, developing, and directing educational programs directed at youth
Physical demands: driving, light lifting, occasional work outdoors in adverse climate

Benefits

The University of Georgia offers a modest monthly living allowance, loan forbearance, and a Segal Education Award equivalent to half of the Pell Grant that may be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary educational institutions as well as to repay qualified student loans. In order to qualify for the Segal Education Award of $3,000, the member must successfully log service hours by August 31.
