Optical Engineer

Avery Dennison's Reflective Solutions Division is a leading developer and manufacturer of retroreflective prismatic sheeting for highway safety products. Our team is dedicated to creating innovative solutions that enhance safety on the road.

We are seeking a creative and analytical Optical Engineer to join our R&D team in Niles, IL. The successful candidate will support the Senior Optical Engineer in developing and manufacturing retroreflective prismatic sheeting for the highway safety market.

• Develop and design new prismatic sheeting types
• Optimize optical modeling and design for improved performance
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless product development
• Conduct data analysis and interpretation to inform design decisions
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in optics and materials science

• Bachelor's degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Master's or PhD preferred
• 4+ years of optics experience in industry and/or academic research setting
• Strong understanding of geometric optics, Fourier optics, and color theory
• Math proficiency (3D geometry, vector analysis, calculus, Fourier analysis)
• Technical programming skills, particularly in object-oriented programming (MATLAB preferred)
