The Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) division at Leidos is seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to contribute to our Ports and Borders (P&B) business unit.
The P&B sector specializes in the design and production of sophisticated security systems utilized at various transportation hubs, including border crossings and airports. Our innovative products encompass radiation detection devices, spectrometers, and X-ray scanning systems for vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering team, including Scientists, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, and Test Engineers, to advance next-generation X-ray security solutions.
- Design and implement microcontroller and PLC-based control systems, focusing on circuit design, embedded programming, motion control, and power management.
- Engage in sustaining engineering for existing products, addressing obsolescence and implementing feature enhancements.
- Generate comprehensive engineering documentation, including design specifications, interface control documents, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Conduct troubleshooting for both new and existing designs at the component level, performing thorough root cause analysis.
Typically, our projects involve small teams of 2-3 Electrical Engineers, allowing for individual ownership of smaller projects, from concept development to implementation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Additional experience may substitute for formal education.
- Eligibility to obtain a Public Trust clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Proven ability to oversee a project from research and development through to production, including writing specifications, developing design documentation, building prototypes, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in designing industrial control systems, including PLCs, machine safety protocols, panel design, object sensing, electrical interfaces, circuit protection, communication protocols, and power distribution.
- Proficient in PLC programming, particularly in IEC61131 languages.
- Familiarity with electrical testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, function generators, and bench power supplies.
- Understanding of product development processes, including design specifications, design reviews, engineering drawings, and change request procedures.
- Comfortable working with X-ray radiation equipment, high voltage systems, and heavy machinery while adhering to safety protocols in industrial environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Orcad, PADS, Altium).
- Knowledge of radiation detection technologies and data acquisition systems.
- Familiarity with X-ray producing machinery and experience in developing system architectures for complex systems.
- Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
As part of the Leidos SES team, you will be integral to producing leading-edge screening technology that enhances security across various sectors.
Compensation:
- The pay range for this position is $81,000 to $146,875. This range serves as a general guideline and does not guarantee compensation. Factors influencing the offer may include job responsibilities, education, experience, and internal equity.
