Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to students with diverse learning needs.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Teacher will work under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to team participation, effective communication, and a passion for creating inclusive learning environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement IEPs in consultation with parents, department team members, and general education staff.
  • Support students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Design instruction, both individual and small group, that parallels the general education curriculum.
  • Assist parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals in developing educational plans that promote students' educational, physical, and social development.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Coordinate IEP implementation with general education staff.
  • Monitor student progress, participate in review and revision of student IEPs, as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities.
  • Support students in preparation for grade transitions and life skills.
  • Assess students' skills and educational needs and track student performance.
  • Discuss students' progress with other teachers.
  • Communicate effectively with students and their parents.
  • Follow School District policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations.
  • Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred.
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred.
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred.
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred.
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
