Job Summary
The City of Jacksonville is seeking a highly skilled Veterinarian to join our team. As a Veterinarian, you will be responsible for providing high-quality veterinary care to animals in our shelter. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong commitment to animal welfare and a passion for delivering exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine and triage animals entering the facility to determine the level of care required
- Develop and oversee treatment plans for animals requiring emergency or ongoing medical care
- Perform surgeries, including high-volume sterilization surgeries
- Monitor the health and care of animals housed at the shelter
- Act as an expert witness in court cases
- Advise the Chief and other managers on veterinary medicine
- Perform and interpret results from necropsies and forensic examinations
- Communicate effectively with pet owners, coworkers, and volunteers
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited institution
- Licensed in the state of Florida with license maintained in good standing
- DEA Licensure required within six months of appointment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit regularly to perform duties
- Ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds
Working Conditions
This position is located in an office and is not a remote location. The Veterinarian will be required to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and may be exposed to animals with contagious diseases.
