Position Summary:

As a vital member of our team, the Grocery Assistant Department Manager supports the Grocery Department Manager in overseeing the Grocery Stocker team, presenting our store's products, and achieving departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

In the role of Grocery Assistant Department Manager, your duties will encompass:

  • Leadership & Team Development: Inspire and guide Grocery associates by promoting Festival's culture and service standards.
  • Staffing & Training: Work alongside the Grocery Department Manager to ensure optimal staffing; assist in the hiring process and provide comprehensive training for new and existing team members.
  • Scheduling & Performance Management: Help manage weekly schedules and collaborate on performance evaluations, addressing any policy issues with the HR Manager and Grocery Department Manager as necessary.
  • Operational Excellence: Contribute to the department's sales and profitability by assisting in all operational aspects, including labor management, expenses, pricing, stock levels, merchandising, and customer service.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with receiving operations to guarantee timely and accurate product deliveries, maintaining optimal stock levels on the sales floor and in storage.
  • Communication: Partner with leadership to conduct team meetings, sharing important updates and achievements with Grocery associates.
  • Inventory & Stock Management: Ensure appropriate inventory levels, accurate pricing, and the upkeep of both sales floor and storage conditions. Work with stockers to maintain well-stocked shelves and appealing displays.
  • Customer Service: Deliver outstanding customer service, assist with special requests, and resolve any issues to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Department Support: Aid Grocery associates with their daily tasks, maintain department cleanliness, and lead by example.
  • Quality Control: Uphold quality standards, ensuring that all expectations are met consistently.
  • Commitment: Maintain regular attendance and provide adequate notice for any absences.
  • Team Support: Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

To excel as a Grocery Assistant Department Manager at Festival Foods, candidates should possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Over two years of leadership experience in retail, grocery, warehouse, or restaurant settings.
  • A solid understanding of the retail food industry, particularly in non-perishable operations, along with strong merchandising abilities.
  • Familiarity with store operations and effective coordination with store and vendor teams.
  • The capacity to make timely decisions, communicate effectively in a dynamic environment, and manage a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to identify potential hazards.
  • Experience with equipment such as hand jacks, balers, forklifts, hand trucks, and trash compactors.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, walk throughout the store, and frequently bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • Fine motor skills and coordination necessary to operate equipment.
  • Full range of upper body motion to lift stock.
  • Capacity to perform repetitive tasks over prolonged periods.
  • Functional sensory abilities to visually monitor the store and create attractive displays.
  • Ability to lift 50-60 pounds occasionally.
Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, hourly position that may require availability during mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
