Timken Power Systems, under the Philadelphia Gear brand, is looking for a Mechanic for our service center in Birmingham, Alabama. This role focuses on the assembly, testing, disassembly, inspection, and painting of enclosed drive gearboxes.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in labor tasks within the assembly and testing departments.
  • Conduct disassembly and thorough inspection of gearboxes.
  • Oversee the assembly and testing of gearboxes.
  • Commit to continuous waste reduction and cycle time improvement.
  • Collaborate with various facility teams (Purchasing, Quality, and Engineering) to swiftly address and resolve assembly and testing issues.
  • Provide constructive feedback to Engineering regarding discrepancies in assembly/testing, drawing inaccuracies, and quality concerns to prevent future occurrences.
  • Promote a culture of safety, cleanliness, and environmental responsibility.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues to encourage teamwork and shared objectives.

Applicants should be capable of walking, standing, climbing, and lifting or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.

Candidates must possess the ability to understand and execute instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic formats. Problem-solving skills are necessary to navigate situations with multiple concrete variables.

Mathematical proficiency is required, including the ability to perform basic operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, as well as calculating rates, ratios, and percentages.

Effective presentation skills in both individual and small group settings are expected. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
