Patient Care Attendant

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Attendant to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a Patient Care Attendant, you will provide essential support to our patient care team, ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of patient care principles and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to prevent injury and ensure safety.
- Receiving reports from RNs and Charge RNs, including patient-specific behaviors to monitor.
- Courteously greeting patients and their visitors, identifying oneself, and explaining purpose using the AIDET communication model.
- Observing and reporting patient concerns or changes in condition to RNs and Charge RNs.
- Promptly calling for assistance as needed.
- Providing care within trained job responsibilities.
- Assisting patients to the restroom and staying with them to ensure their safety.
- Notifying RNs and Charge RNs if tubes, IVs, catheters, etc. become disconnected.
- Reporting defective equipment to RNs and Charge RNs.
- Accompanying patients to other areas of the hospital for diagnostic tests or transfers.
- Utilizing appropriate patient handling equipment according to patient care plans.
- Transporting patient equipment and belongings as required.
- Maintaining a safe, orderly, and well-equipped environment.
- Keeping patient rooms neat and orderly.
- Evaluating patient environments for potential hazards and removing them.
- Following infection control policies and procedures.
- Competently utilizing technology to document patient information.
- Demonstrating understanding of unit technology, including call systems, bed controls, and TV controls.
