Key Responsibilities of a Breast Imaging Specialist
The primary role of the breast imaging specialist involves identifying abnormalities in breast tissue through comprehensive mammographic imaging procedures.
- Welcomes patients, reviews imaging requests, verifies special instructions, and confirms expected services.
- Facilitates patient cooperation, alleviates anxieties, provides clear explanations of imaging processes, and addresses inquiries.
- Performs mammography procedures, positions breasts accurately, adjusts compression settings, operates equipment, and prioritizes safety.
- Reduces radiation exposure by adhering to protective protocols.
- Ensures the quality and consistency of mammograms, monitors results, and verifies equipment functionality.
- Maintains readiness of supplies, upholds workplace standards, and documents patient interactions.
- Enhances professional knowledge, engages in educational opportunities, and nurtures professional relationships.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Completion of accredited Radiologic Technology training and ability to fulfill registry prerequisites.
- Mammographic Radiologic Technology certification.
- Proficient in operating computer systems, with a strong interest in scientific and technical skills, and a compassionate approach to patient interactions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently under guidance.
