Position Summary
The role of Perception Software Engineer is crucial for the advancement of our onboard perception systems, which are essential for both ocean monitoring and navigational safety. By integrating machine vision, radar, acoustic, and AIS data, our fleet navigates complex maritime environments while addressing challenges such as illegal fishing and crowded waterways. The unique operational demands of our solar and wind-powered drones necessitate the development of efficient algorithms and strategic deployment methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and assess perception and tracking algorithms that integrate data from various sensors, including cameras and radars.
- Develop high-performance C++ code for real-time operational systems.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of sensor technologies into perception frameworks.
- Partner with machine learning specialists to optimize overall system performance.
- Create and manage extensive perception regression tests to facilitate rapid software development and performance evaluation.
- Refine and enhance algorithms for practical applications in real-world scenarios.
- Coordinate with platform and UI developers to present critical sensor data to users for real-time situational awareness and intelligent navigation.
Required Qualifications
- 2-5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in writing production-level software.
- Proficient in C++ with at least 3 years of experience.
- Familiarity with perception systems and algorithms.
- Understanding of machine learning methodologies.
- Experience in GPU-accelerated algorithm development.
- Knowledge of signal processing techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills in robotics.
- Excellent communication abilities.
- Aspirations for technical leadership roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with computer vision, state estimation, sensor fusion, and machine learning.
- Familiarity with various sensor technologies.
- Experience with tracking algorithms, including Particle and Kalman filters.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Experience deploying algorithms on Nvidia robotics chipsets.
- Background in robotics or autonomous vehicle sectors.
- Knowledge of middleware such as ROS or ZMQ.
