We are seeking a highly qualified Lecturer to join our Department of Geology and Environmental Science at James Madison University. The successful candidate will contribute to our general education program by teaching introductory geoscience courses, including physical geology, Earth systems and climate change, oceanography, and environmental science. The position is a 10-month, promotable, full-time appointment beginning August 2025.
Responsibilities- Teach introductory geoscience courses, including physical geology, Earth systems and climate change, oceanography, and environmental science.
- Participate in service and scholarly activities, such as scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), mentoring of undergraduate research, advising student organizations, or the development of new educational materials.
- Contribute to the department's efforts in building inclusive excellence within geosciences and Earth science to promote the success and retention of all students.
- A Master's Degree or PhD in Earth science, geology, or a relevant field is required at the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated ability to teach introductory undergraduate courses in the geosciences.
- Potential for, or experience with, increasing access through inclusive instruction.
- Experience as the instructor of record in a geoscience class.
- Experience developing instructional materials.
- Active scholarship in SoTL.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate students.
