Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Student Support Specialist to join our team at Cooper Elementary School. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the academic and social needs of our students, working closely with teachers, counselors, and other school staff to ensure the success of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and connect with students who are at risk of falling behind academically or socially, and develop strategies to support their needs.
  • Work with teachers to understand the academic and social needs of students, and coordinate with other school staff to provide targeted support.
  • Connect students and families with community resources, including primary health, mental health, arts, recreation, and afterschool programs.
  • Develop positive relationships with families, District staff, and community organizations to provide academic and social supports for students.
  • Attend and network with families during parent connection efforts, such as Open House, student-led conferences, parent workshops, and community events.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  • GED or high school diploma; some college preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability and proficiency to speak, write, comprehend, and translate both English and identified language.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence in both US culture and cultures of the identified student subset.
  • Ability to relate positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
