Medical Assistant

Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team in an Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and psychologists.
Key Responsibilities- Assist prescribers with daily clinical tasks, including providing patient education, responding to patient requests, and facilitating communications between patients, providers, and outside agencies.
- Observe, report, and record pertinent patient information in accordance with hospital standards in a timely manner in the EMR.
- Perform outreach to outside entities to facilitate care, including coordinating with pharmacies and visiting nurse agencies.
- Administer psychiatric assessment tools as requested by practice clinicians and assist prescribers in queuing up prescription refills.
- Provide health education and share resources with patients, collect vital signs and weights as needed, and review medication lists with patients to queue up for physician review.
- Follow up with patients who miss appointments, document relevant information in the EMR, and communicate any pertinent safety or medical information with identified providers.
- Respect and support patients' cultural beliefs and values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences.
- Help standardize procedures and effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise, making recommendations to supervisors, administrators, and clinician directors for improvements.
- Actively engage in creating a healthy, respectful work environment, precept and mentor new team members as needed, and perform necessary quality assurance.
- Maintain and update clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing practice, adhere to departmental requirements for required training, and identify specific learning needs and goals to collaborate with leadership in developing a plan to meet them.
- Meet regularly with supervising providers concerning clinical care, issues, activities, and the status of projects, and perform all other duties or special projects that are practice-specific and appropriate to this level of position.
- Psychiatric experience preferred, with a strong interest in mental health and a desire to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- BLS certification preferred, with a graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Minimum required education: some college or associate's degree, with a preferred education of a bachelor's degree in a field such as psychiatry or mental health.
- Preferred experience: 2 years of work experience in a medical setting, ideally outpatient, with psychiatric or mental health experience preferred.
