Job Overview

The Electrical Technician I will demonstrate foundational knowledge, skills, and abilities in the electrical field, working under limited supervision to conduct inspections, maintenance, installation, and repairs of electrical systems and components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct maintenance, installation, and servicing of electrical systems by inspecting, testing, and replacing faulty components and circuits.
  • Utilize basic knowledge to perform testing on alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) motors, circuits, and devices, employing tools such as meggers and multimeters.
  • Understand electrical theory, Navy specifications, and the properties of materials to operate electrical equipment effectively.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of various power systems and troubleshooting techniques for different voltage levels, including 24-volt DC and 440-volt AC.
  • Interpret blueprints to identify wiring locations and ensure compliance with job specifications and standards.
  • Read and execute wiring diagrams and instructions from supervisors for emergency repairs and electrical inspections.
  • Familiarize with EPISM for shipboard installations and NEC/NFPA standards for residential and industrial projects.
  • Perform troubleshooting using technical manuals and electrical schematics for various systems, including ventilation and lighting.
  • Apply NAVSEA standards for electrical cable testing and be knowledgeable about grounding methods as per MIL-STD-1310 and NEC/NFPA 70.
  • Utilize a range of tools and equipment, including volt-ohm meters and ammeters, for testing and repairs.
Safety and Physical Requirements:
  • Adhere to standard electrical safety protocols and procedures for energized work.
  • Engage in physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving heavy materials.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Project Manager or supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
  • Certification from a technical or trade school is preferred.
  • Possession of an apprenticeship or formal training in the electrical sector is advantageous.
Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain necessary job-specific training and certifications.
  • Pass drug tests, background checks, and any required medical screenings.
  • Capability to access military or government facilities.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
