Job Summary

The City of Urbandale, IA is seeking a highly dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Reserve Police Officer. As a Reserve Police Officer, you will play a vital role in providing community service and supporting the Urbandale Police Department in maintaining public safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance to the public.
  • Enforce municipal, state, and federal regulations, codes, laws, and ordinances.
  • Provide information and assistance to the public, promoting good public relations.
  • Interview, interrogate, and record statements from witnesses, suspects, and victims.
  • Prepare written reports on incidents and cases assigned.
  • Apprehend suspects and utilize self-defense techniques.
  • Assist in emergency situations, including responding to fire and EMS calls, and administering first aid.
  • Inspect and maintain law enforcement equipment.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Testify in court and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Participate in and successfully pass the required state certification program for Reserve Police Officers.
  • Meet established minimum volunteer hours each month.
  • Pass a pre-employment offer: reference checks, physical and drug screen, motor vehicle report, and background check.
  • Hold a high school diploma or GED.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with an AA degree or 2 years of active military service.
  • Be at least 20 years old and a citizen of the United States.
  • Have no felony convictions or convictions for crimes involving moral turpitude.
  • Certification as an Iowa Reserve Police Officer within 18 months of employment.
  • CPR First Aid certification.
  • Valid Iowa Driver's license.
