Position SummaryThe Medical Staff Associate plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of donors by evaluating their suitability for automated pheresis procedures and administering approved immunizations. They also provide essential medical care to both donors and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Cultivate positive relationships with all donors, fostering a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.
- Conduct confidential interviews with potential donors to thoroughly assess their eligibility for plasma donation.
- Collaborate closely with the Center Medical Director and/or Physician to address any medical inquiries or concerns raised by staff members.
- Perform comprehensive medical history reviews and health assessments on donors to determine their initial and ongoing suitability for donation.
- Provide clear and compassionate counseling to donors regarding reactive test results, guiding them towards appropriate follow-up care as needed.
- Explain informed consent procedures in detail to donors, ensuring their understanding and obtaining necessary signatures.
- Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies during donation sessions, adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and escalating situations when required.
- Review test results meticulously and make informed decisions regarding donor suitability, strictly following SOP guidelines for four-month approvals.
- Monitor donors closely for any signs or symptoms that may affect their ability to continue donating safely.
- Manage employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization programs, including the administration of vaccines.
- Oversee donor immunization programs and maintain a thorough understanding of recommended immunization schedules.
- Ensure accurate recording of all donor data within electronic management systems.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols and procedures at all times.
- Uphold the strictest confidentiality regarding all personnel, donor, and center information.
- Be open to cross-training in other areas as needed to support the overall operations of the Plasma Center.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Possession of a current Arizona State Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Minimum of one year of experience working in a healthcare setting.
- Prior experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or regulated environment is highly preferred.
- Ability to conduct thorough physical assessments and effectively instruct donors and staff on the benefits of plasma donation.
