K-8 School Nursing Substitute Position

The Substitute School Nurse at Falk Laboratory School, a private and independent K-8 institution affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh, plays a vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of students in the absence of the regular school nurse.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the health needs of students through episodic care and first aid for ill and injured students.
- Communicate with parents as necessary and administer medications.
- Follow emergency care plans and individual health plans, ensuring compliance with laws regarding student health, including obtaining necessary parental and caregiver consent.
- Provide health information and act as a resource for parents, teachers, and staff, while identifying health issues for appropriate referrals.
The substitute nurse may also assist in state-mandated health screenings, such as vision, dental, and hearing tests.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred.
- RN licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is necessary, with a preference for experience in pediatrics and/or a K-12 educational environment.
