Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Refrigeration and Utilities Specialist to join our team at Primal Pet Group in Abilene, Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our ammonia refrigeration systems, as well as performing maintenance duties and troubleshooting equipment issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform refrigeration operational and maintenance duties, including defrosting freezer evaporators as needed.
  • Ensure the accuracy of data reporting systems, such as refrigeration logs and fire protection systems.
  • Work on trouble-shooting ammonia equipment, boilers, and other equipment as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance work orders and assist with work requests that require multiple employees.
  • Operate and maintain the compressed air system, HVAC, and Fire Protection System.
  • Support the plant process safety management system (PSM) and perform basic duties using an ammonia full-face gas mask.
  • Understand and utilize lock/out tag out procedures for electrical, mechanical, and valve shut off sequences for the ammonia system.
  • Repair and maintain industrial refrigerated storage equipment, HVAC, buildings, and surrounding grounds.
  • Perform routine and emergency service on ammonia refrigeration equipment commonly found in industrial applications.
Requirements
  • High school degree (or GED)
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial refrigeration/ammonia/HVAC/R experience
  • RETA 1&2 certification preferred or willingness to become certified
  • 3-5 years' experience with anhydrous ammonia (R717) preferred
  • Basic computer experience
  • Ability to wear a respirator and pass a fit test
  • Motor alignment experience a plus
  • Ability to effectively manage time and complete delegated work within a specified timeframe
  • Ability to read and interpret EPA regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy
  • Ability and willingness to follow oral and written directions
