The Data and Analytics Engineering team is at the forefront of developing Discover's data ecosystem across various business sectors. This encompasses a suite of applications designed for data curation, ingestion, and enabling large-scale ELT transactions and data egress.
As part of a close-knit team of engineers, you will engage in daily agile practices, analyzing application performance trends, brainstorming innovative solutions during sprint planning, implementing impactful ideas, and measuring their outcomes. Many engineers from our team have progressed to influential roles within Discover, shaping decision-making across the organization.
Our team is tasked with architecting and constructing the platform that empowers Data Engineering. The solutions we create directly influence the quality of data available for model building and campaign execution. We prioritize automating code generation and deployment across diverse platforms, continually seeking optimal interactions with various systems to maintain peak performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with a focus on quality (security, reliability, operations) in production. Demonstrate an understanding of the software development lifecycle and apply critical thinking to evaluate features and functionalities effectively.
- Mentor early-career engineers by assigning learning and work-related tasks, guiding their development, and enhancing their technical skills.
- Oversee application, system, and architectural design decisions, steering the team towards achieving key product outcomes.
- Address issues using engineering principles and devise proactive design solutions to ensure high reliability of technical implementations.
- Achieve team commitments and inspire others through informal leadership and advanced communication skills.
- Contribute to and lead technology communities of practice at Discover, focusing on design-thinking, tools/technology, agile software development, security, architecture, and data.
- Establish and uphold IT standards within the system/application infrastructure, ensuring compatibility with the platform architecture.
Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered, you should possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- For internal applicants: a technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have:
- Hands-on experience with AWS services, including Lambda, Step Functions, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, DynamoDB, and EC2.
- Familiarity with microservices, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Snowflake MPP databases is a plus.
- Practical experience integrating open-source components into data-analytic solutions.
- Involvement in the architecture and design of new and existing systems, focusing on reliability and scalability.
- Experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining large-scale Cloud-native solutions.
- Experience in building data pipelines for data lake ingestion.
External candidates will be required to undergo a technical interview.
Compensation:
The base salary for this role typically ranges between $86,500.00 to $146,000. Additional incentives may be part of a competitive total compensation package. Factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may influence the salary for this position.
