POSITION OBJECTIVE
Under the general oversight of the Charge Nurse, the Staff Registered Nurse applies professional nursing competencies through the nursing process in delivering patient care. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for designated patients. The Staff RN acts as an advocate for patients within the healthcare framework, ensuring specialized care is provided. It is essential to maintain the knowledge and skills necessary for delivering care in a specialized area. The RN is accountable for ensuring patient safety, comfort, care, and treatment in accordance with legal, ethical, professional, and institutional standards. Participation in quality improvement and service excellence initiatives is expected, along with adherence to departmental and organizational policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Employ the nursing process to assess, plan, deliver, document, and evaluate patient care.
- Assessment: Conduct systematic data collection, utilizing knowledge of physiological and psychological principles to establish nursing diagnoses and predict outcomes.
- Nursing Diagnosis and Outcome Identification: Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and set patient goals.
- Coordinate and plan nursing care delivery with a multidisciplinary team, making clinical decisions to enhance patient care. Collaborate with the healthcare team to create a care plan that outlines interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Provide competent care tailored to the needs of patients and the population served, implementing interventions from the care plan.
- Evaluate patient progress towards achieving outcomes and communicate effectively with physicians and team members.
- Deliver patient and family education based on individual needs and devise strategies to meet those needs.
- Administer and reconcile medications accurately.
- Follow infection control protocols diligently.
- Understand and uphold patient rights, including confidentiality, informed consent, and privacy.
- Exhibit adaptability, problem-solving skills, and professionalism consistently.
- Engage in systematic evaluation of programs and processes aimed at improving client-centered outcomes.
- Support professional growth by fulfilling continuing education requirements and contributing to departmental goals, serving as a mentor to less experienced staff.
- Participate in readiness activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Adhere to the legal compliance code of conduct.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and handle protected health information appropriately.
- Ensure a safe working environment and report safety concerns as necessary.

INTERACTIONS AND CONTACTS
All positions at Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, participating in care and service delivery through effective collaboration with other team members. The RN primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical professionals, patients, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
Experience: One year of experience in Med/Surg preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Texas or eligibility for licensure. Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of employment, prior to independent patient care. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required within 90 days of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent activities include standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Occasional activities may involve sitting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting. Visual and auditory acuity is necessary, along with color vision for assessing changes in patient conditions and medications. The work environment is primarily indoors, with adequate ventilation and a comfortable temperature. Potential exposure to toxic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, communicable diseases, and bloodborne pathogens may occur.
