Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Transportation Department, the successful candidate will operate a school bus over designated routes to transport students to and from school, while ensuring their safety and well-being.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a school bus daily over designated routes, adhering to time schedules and transportation rules.
  • Pick up and discharge students safely, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Escort students across streets, stopping traffic when necessary, to ensure their safety.
  • Transport students and teachers on field trips, choosing the best route and making departure and arrival times as scheduled.
  • Service the bus with gas and oil, check tires and battery, and maintain the bus in a safe operating condition.
  • Maintain good order among students on the bus, following district policies regarding discipline and communication with parents and other citizens.
  • Keep records of mileage, fuel, and oil, and prepare reports of driving hazards and incidents.
Essential Skills
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Operate a school bus with good judgment and extreme caution.
  • Maintain order among students on a school bus.
  • Learn a designated bus route, bus stops, and district traffic hazards.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
