Clinical Speech Therapist
The Clinical Speech Therapist will be primarily accountable for delivering direct patient services, designing and executing tailored treatment strategies for individuals in accordance with the established methodologies of speech therapy within the PAM Health framework. The Clinical Speech Therapist will also play a role in the enhancement of service offerings. Flexibility is essential to accommodate the diverse needs of the organization across various facilities. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary. This position is classified as non-exempt and involves treating patients across all age groups, from children to seniors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Exhibits proficiency in alignment with institutional policies, procedures, and practices.
• Regularly engages with patients and/or their families to address specific needs.
• Develops a functional training regimen tailored to the patient's capabilities, including balance, movement transitions, transfers, ambulation, wheelchair navigation, and dressing skills. Demonstrates expertise in instructing patients through effective intervention techniques.
• Utilizes equipment appropriately and guides patients and caregivers in its correct usage to enhance functionality.
• Implements aquatic therapy programs when available and suitable.
• Ensures the delivery of high-quality speech therapy services within clinical or hospital settings.
• Skilled in accessing and applying research data to support evidence-based practices.
• Collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate comprehensive patient care plans.
• Ensures that necessary equipment (e.g., orthotic devices, wheelchairs, bathroom aids) is secured and safe for patient use.
• Prepares clear written or verbal instructions for patients and caregivers to facilitate therapeutic home exercise routines.
• Provides continuous education to patients and caregivers, including practical problem-solving skills for everyday situations.
• Suggests suitable home modifications and adaptations as needed.
• Maintains accurate documentation, including charge sheets, treatment records, and medical documentation, in a timely manner, adhering to PAM policies and procedures; ensures the accuracy and completeness of charge capture as per institutional guidelines.
• Compiles timely reports for any unusual incidents involving patients, visitors, staff, or self, and actively implements safety measures to avert preventable injuries.
• Responsible for achieving daily productivity benchmarks.
• Collaborates with the medical director, physicians, or consultants, and other rehabilitation team members when joint efforts are required.
• Participates in patient care discussions and team meetings.
• Engages in professional development through in-services and relevant continuing education opportunities, sharing knowledge to enhance team competency.
• Demonstrates commitment to the overall effectiveness of the team.
• Assists in the upkeep of clinical or hospital equipment, reporting any repair or replacement needs promptly.
• Complies with Medicare regulations when applicable.
• Engages in specialized training for program enhancement as requested by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Training: Must hold a valid SLP license in the state of practice. Current BLS certification is mandatory.
Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong verbal communication skills to interact effectively with medical professionals, patients, their families, and the public.
• Numerical aptitude to interpret clinical data accurately.
• Adheres to a well-defined set of professional and ethical standards.
• Requires good motor coordination for safe patient handling and equipment operation.
• Capable of managing repetitive and/or evolving tasks with ease.
• Able to work independently, employing logical, impartial, and accurate reasoning.
• Demonstrates leadership and direction within assigned responsibilities to optimize team performance.
• Open to receiving and applying constructive feedback.
• Willingness to adapt work style to meet patient and organizational needs.
• Eager to take on additional responsibilities as necessary.
