Job Summary

As an Exercise Physiologist at McDonough District Hospital, you will play a vital role on the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team as an exercise specialist. Your primary responsibility will be to plan, organize, and implement specific medically prescribed cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation programs.

Job Specifications

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's Degree with completed coursework in exercise physiology, including normal and diseased states, exercise training of cardiac and pulmonary patients, and exercise treating using metabolic measurement care. Certification as an Exercise Specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine is preferred. ACLS certification is required, with a 90-day timeframe for previous certification and 180 days for new certification. One year of experience in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation and exercise leadership is also required.

Job Knowledge: Basic reading and math skills, clerical, record-keeping, medical terminology, and basic patient care skills are essential. Knowledge of regulatory standards, safety, and infection control, as well as hospital procedures, is also necessary. Effective communication and telephone etiquette, as well as the ability to function productively and cooperatively as part of a team, are crucial.

Abilities, Interests, and Temperaments: The ability to comply with department-specific controls to reduce the risk of acquiring and transmitting infections within the healthcare setting is essential. This may include immunity to certain vaccine-preventable diseases, screening for tuberculosis infection or disease, and the ability to utilize indicated personal protective equipment. The ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations, including those with developmental needs, cultural diversity, and patients with pain or abuse/neglect, is also required.
