Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care
    • Assess, plan, direct, and evaluate total nursing care for patients of all ages, genders, cultures, and backgrounds.
    • Use effective communication skills to interact with patients, families, and team members.
    • Assist Case Management by being a patient advocate, resource, and contact person for patients.
    • Provide basic education information to patients and families, focusing on self-care appropriate to their age and identified learning considerations and needs.
    • Perform assessment data collection and document subjective data (chief complaint, allergies, etc.) and objective data (vital signs, weight, etc.).
    • Review basic health history information for patients, focusing on environmental, self-care, and discharge planning.
    • Administer medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly using the 7 patient rights, accurate patient identification, and perform lab/diagnostic testing as ordered by the provider and report all critical lab values immediately.
    • Demonstrate an ability to remain calm, perform effectively, and professionally during peak periods of activity and emergency situations.
    • Assist providers with examination and procedures per request.
    • Utilize universal precautions in obtaining specimens (venipuncture, cultures, etc.) and in delivery of patient care.
  • Team Leadership
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of the care given by the interdisciplinary care team and identify problems and guide team members to their solution.
    • Assign care to team members in accordance with patient needs, staff capabilities, and qualifications.
    • Participate in training, orientation, competency assessment, and education of new employees.
    • Communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately, creating a working climate that promotes growth and job satisfaction of personnel.
    • Use effective coaching, positive reinforcement, and other methods to enhance team performance.
    • Serve as a resource person to other staff members.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Adhere to all policies of the organization, including (but not limited to) job description, certification/licensure requirements, mission statement, HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and patient's rights.
    • Actively engage and stay up to date with organization's communications and directives.
    • Act in a professional manner, reflecting the mission of Cleveland Area Hospital, Inc. and demonstrate compliance with all policy, procedures, and state/federal regulations.
    • Demonstrate ongoing service excellence skills.
    • Maintain economical and efficient nursing care in a clean and safe environment.
    • Participate in performance improvement activities as required.
    • Demonstrate ongoing understanding and support corporate strategic initiatives.
    • Participate in meetings, education, and demonstrate genuine desire to develop strategies for improved operation for a higher level of patient care.
    • Assist Director of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer in evaluating the performance of team members for performance appraisals.
    • Communicate effectively with DON/CNO any problems.
    • Review staffing to ensure an adequate number of qualified staff to provide quality care to patients.
    Requirements
    • Current R.N. license recognized and in good standing with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing
    • BLS
    • ACLS - Current or within 6 months of hire
    • PALS - Current or within 6 months of hire
    • Able to make decisions under pressure.
    • Able to handle multiple priorities
    Working Conditions
