Job Summary

We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at the Duke Primary Care - Patient Engagement Center (PEC) in NC. This is a hybrid role that requires a strong clinical background and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients and preparing them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic/office.
  • Take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and promote patient/family understanding of educational content and their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Document patient records, dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, and perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments.
  • Telephonize prescriptions to pharmacies, prepare and administer medications as directed by physicians, and authorize drug refills as directed.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting is required for Level II, and at least 3 years of experience is required for Level III.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA is required, and BLS certification is also required.
