The role of the nursing education instructor is to guide and enhance the learning experience of nursing students, equipping them with essential knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes necessary for delivering safe, effective, and collaborative care to individuals, families, and communities.
This position involves creating engaging educational environments that foster desired cognitive, emotional, and practical competencies; developing students' professional behaviors and social skills; assessing and evaluating student performance; contributing to curriculum development and program outcomes; acting as a catalyst for change; and demonstrating a commitment to excellence in nursing education and practice. Continuous improvement in nursing education is a key expectation for this role.
Qualifications for Faculty
Academic Credentials
Instructors appointed to the associate degree nursing program are required to possess at least a master's degree in nursing or a related discipline.
Instructors with practical experience may hold a bachelor's degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree with a nursing concentration, subject to a degree waiver approved by the program administrator.
Instructors for baccalaureate or graduate nursing programs must have a minimum of a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field.
Instructors with relevant experience may hold a master's degree in nursing or a master's degree with a nursing concentration, contingent upon a degree waiver approved by the program administrator.
Professional Experience
Instructors teaching nursing-related courses must have at least four years of relevant practical experience in the areas they teach.
Licensure Requirements
Must possess an unencumbered Registered Nurse or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license issued by the appropriate state health department or an approved compact state.
For instructors teaching clinical courses in the nurse practitioner program, an unencumbered license or authorization to practice as a nurse practitioner, as mandated by the respective state or territory, is required.
