As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Medical Office Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations within our outpatient clinic. This full-time position is primarily day-shift based, focusing on delivering exceptional patient care and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities:- Facilitates a welcoming environment for patients, guiding them through their clinic experience.
- Executes duties as outlined in the Healthcare Administrative Assistant (HAA) job description.
- Undertakes responsibilities associated with the Clinical Assistant role, adhering to the respective job guidelines.
- Conducts in-house testing as permitted by available equipment and validated training.
- Maintains laboratory operations independently, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Collects patient specimens utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Confirms patient identity and order accuracy prior to specimen collection.
- Reviews relevant patient history to ensure safe and effective blood draw procedures.
- Determines the optimal site for blood draws, selecting appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Adheres to safety protocols and universal precautions during specimen handling.
- Prepares samples for transport to external laboratories, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Communicates abnormal or critical results to the designated healthcare provider promptly.
- Responsible for the upkeep and calibration of laboratory equipment, reporting any malfunctions as necessary.
- Maintains an organized and stocked workspace, assisting with inventory management as needed.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
Experience: A minimum of one year in a physician office laboratory setting is preferred.
Licensure and Certification: Phlebotomy certification is required upon hire or within the first year. Some practices may prefer certification as a nursing assistant.
Life Support Certification: AHA BLS-HCP certification is required within the initial 90 days of employment.
Additional Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Attention to detail, dexterity, and organizational skills are crucial for success in this role. Proficiency in electronic medical records and familiarity with clinical and clerical procedures is preferred.
