Dental Hygiene Specialist

A pediatric dental hygienist plays a vital role in promoting oral health and well-being among children, adolescents, and young adults. This dedicated professional encourages good oral hygiene practices and educates patients on proper dental care techniques.
The challenges of working with children are ever-present, particularly when they are afraid of dental procedures. As a pediatric dental hygienist, you may need to calm anxious children and provide reassurance to help them feel at ease.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare treatment rooms for patients by adhering to established protocols and procedures.
- Prepare patients for dental hygiene treatment by welcoming, soothing, seating, and draping them.
- Provide information to patients and staff by answering questions and requests.
- Maintain dental instruments for hygiene treatment by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting the right tools.
- Select materials and equipment for dental visits by evaluating patients' oral health.
- Complete dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and beneath gum margins.
- Detect diseases by completing oral cancer screenings, feeling and visually examining gums, and exposing and developing radiographic studies.
- Prevent dental decay by applying fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents.
- Maintain patients' appearance and ability to chew by fabricating temporary restorations, cleaning and polishing removable appliances, and removing cement from crowns and bridges.
- Help dentists manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drugs and oxygen supply, and a directory of emergency numbers.
- Educate patients by providing oral hygiene and plaque control instructions and postoperative instructions, and reminding them of their next dental hygiene visit.
- Document dental hygiene services by recording vital signs and medical and dental histories, and charting in patient records.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Ensure the operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintain dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies.
- Conserve dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- You may also administer anesthesia to children in the form of Novocain and nitrous oxide.
