Job Summary

The Rural Transit Director is responsible for the daily operations of SETHRA's public transit system in nine rural counties in Southeast Tennessee. This role involves planning, operational oversight, budget development and management, compliance oversight, fleet procurement and asset allocation, staff recruitment and supervision, and grant research, writing, and management.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement daily operations of the public transit system.
  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing public transit.
  • Procure and manage fleet assets, ensuring optimal utilization and maintenance.
  • Recruit, supervise, and develop staff, ensuring a skilled and motivated team.
  • Research, write, and manage grants to support public transit initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., transportation, business, public administration).
  • At least 5 years of experience in public transit management or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations governing public transit.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
