KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the performance of both unionized and non-unionized personnel. Ensure compliance with union agreements and maintain adequate staffing levels. Conduct annual evaluations for non-union staff.
  • Ensure precise timekeeping records are maintained for all employees.
  • Stay informed and knowledgeable about all company products.
  • Coordinate and plan all departmental activities in collaboration with the sales team to guarantee prompt and efficient production of materials.
  • Ensure departmental objectives are met in a timely manner.
  • Establish and oversee departmental targets for production, efficiency, and safety. Clearly communicate these goals to team members.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring compliance by assessing both long-term and short-term capital requirements and monitoring all departmental purchases and expenditures.
  • Handle multiple projects and priorities, ensuring efficiency, punctuality, and thorough follow-through.
  • Assist in resolving operational challenges that arise within the facility.
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with other departments (Sales, rolling mill, laboratory, and yard) as well as administrative staff.
  • Support the President and other department leaders in projects and the formulation of long-term strategies. Additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Word and Excel, with the capability to learn and effectively utilize any other software specific to the company.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain effective working relationships.
  • This role requires availability for on-call duties 24/7, necessitating the carrying of a mobile device at all times.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is typically conducted in various settings, including indoor, outdoor, and industrial manufacturing environments. The role may require the ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds and/or lift/carry up to 20 pounds. Environmental conditions may vary, with exposure to outdoor elements such as snow, rain, and heat, as well as plant conditions like dust, noise, and temperature extremes while performing job duties. Personal protective equipment is mandatory and will be provided by the company.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in steel production (EAF, BOF, Caster, Refractories).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in steel production roles.
  • In-depth understanding of steel production processes, equipment, and technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Proven commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
