Job Summary

The New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corps is seeking a skilled Paramedic to join our team. As a Paramedic, you will provide advanced medical care and transportation for critically injured or ill patients in a pre-hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Emergency Medical Care: Administer advanced life support care to patients in pre-hospital settings, adhering to established medical protocols and standards.
  • Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine the nature and extent of illness or injury.
  • Medical Procedures: Perform medical procedures such as intravenous access, endotracheal intubation, and cardiac monitoring.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications as per established protocols and medical direction.
  • Patient Transportation: Safely transport patients to medical facilities, ensuring continuous care during transit.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with dispatch, medical staff, patients, and family members.
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient information, treatment provided, and the patient's response in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all medical equipment and supplies are maintained and ready for use.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paramedicine or related field preferred.
  • Certification:
    • Current New York State Paramedic Certification.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a paramedic in an emergency medical services setting preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong clinical skills with the ability to perform under pressure.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in using medical and computer equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activities such as kneeling, bending, and lifting.
  • Capacity to work in adverse weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily in the field, including homes, businesses, and public settings.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, and extreme weather conditions.
  • Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
