Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our team at the University of California, Santa Barbara. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as other mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, including pumps, air compressors, steam and hot water boilers, and other equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration equipment, including changing oil and filters, cleaning strainers, and cleaning condensers and cooling towers.
  • Design, fabricate, and install plumbing systems, including steel pipe, copper pipe, and tubing.
  • Assist water treatment engineers in maintaining chemical balance in boiler feed water, chiller water, and equipment cooling loops.
  • Participate in safety and professional training programs, and maintain a safe work environment.
Requirements
  • 4-6 years of journeyman-level experience in the HVAC field.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working on cooling and heating equipment.
  • Understanding of HVAC methods and techniques.
  • Ability to work well on a team and independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid EPA Universal Technician Certificate.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to mechanical equipment and potentially hazardous materials. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights.
