Job SummaryThe City of Gillette is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing federal, state, and local laws, as well as protecting life and property.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct investigations into witnessed or alleged criminal activity, including interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects, and collecting and processing physical evidence.
- Respond to emergency situations, including medical emergencies, civil disputes, and criminal complaints.
- Patrol assigned areas and conduct proactive law enforcement, identifying signs of criminal activity and responding accordingly.
- Perform traffic enforcement duties, including conducting traffic stops and issuing citations.
- Document incidents and prepare required reports.
- Assist in the preparation of court documents, including search and arrest warrants.
- Serve arrest warrants, search warrants, and criminal subpoenas, and enforce court orders.
- Perform the duties of a Field Training Officer as assigned.
- Serve on special teams and task forces as assigned, and serve as a School Resource Officer as assigned.
- Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Complete required training.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, criminal and traffic codes, search and seizure laws, and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of traffic accident investigation techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of the geography and streets of the city.
- Knowledge of the court system and judicial procedures.
- Skill in the use of a computer.
- Skill in operating police vehicles, firearms, and emergency equipment.
- Skill in operating radios and communications equipment.
- Skill in operating radar equipment.
- Skill in restraining persons without causing physical harm.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
