Position Overview:

In addition to front-of-house duties, you may be asked to assist in back-of-house operations when necessary. It is essential to perform all tasks while embodying a friendly and professional demeanor to represent Middlebury College effectively at events.

Compensation:
This role is classified as part-time and does not include benefits. The hourly wage for this position is $20.62.

Essential Functions:
• Adhere to instructions and respond positively to constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure that service standards are met for all catered events.
• Prepare the function room and ensure food service is ready prior to guest arrival.
• Provide comprehensive catering services, including food handling, bar setup, and event cleanup.
• Maintain awareness of the event flow and direction.
• Carry trays of food efficiently while maintaining a pleasant and professional attitude.
• Communicate effectively with guests, fellow staff, kitchen personnel, and management.
• Possess knowledge of menu items and be able to identify potential allergens for guests.
• Create a welcoming atmosphere for attendees.
• Follow the Dining Room Manager's guidance regarding service pace and timing, anticipating needs and addressing potential issues proactively.

General Responsibilities:
• Take responsibility for the maintenance and care of all catering and kitchen areas and equipment during events.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changes in event flow as needed.
• If events occur outside designated dining areas, you may need to return to the main kitchen for cleanup tasks.

Experience Requirements:
No specific prior experience is required; however, enthusiasm and adaptability are essential. Candidates should demonstrate their value through an understanding of the Catering Handbook. Continuous improvement in service skills and teamwork is expected for advancement within the on-call team.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift weights ranging from 10-20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally with assistance.
• Must be capable of standing for extended periods and engaging in frequent walking, bending, and reaching.
• A high level of activity is required throughout the shift, with the possibility of overtime.

Work Schedule:
Shifts may occur at any time throughout the week, and employees must adhere to legal work hour regulations. College students should consider their academic commitments when requesting shifts. Professional attire and punctuality are mandatory.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
