Job Summary

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead at Monument Health, you will be responsible for organizing and supervising workload, performing specialized testing, and establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships. You will assist with employee performance and competency assessment, provide instruction and training for staff/students, and help implement, maintain, and monitor adherence to safety and infection control practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in evaluating employee performance through competency assessment practices, consultation with other employees, and direct observation of performance in clinical activities.
  • Assist in evaluating, selecting, and validating new equipment and methodologies, and implement changes in response to technology and laboratory procedures.
  • Assist in organizing, implementing, and maintaining a quality assurance program.
  • Interpret test results by correlating patient data with clinical history and diagnosis, and differentiate technical, instrumental, and/or physiological causes for unexpected results.
  • Operate laboratory instruments using established protocols, perform routine calibration or standardization of instruments, and recognize instrument malfunction to maintain availability of testing capabilities.
  • Verify the accuracy and reliability of test results by performing quality control according to policy, and demonstrate competence of self and testing methods.
  • Act as a mentor for members of the section by delegating appropriate duties, training to function in supervisor's absence, and actively encouraging their professional growth.
  • Adhere to the highest laboratory standards to consistently provide quality clinical laboratory testing to all customers.
  • Assist the Laboratory Leaders in technical aspects of goals, objectives, tactics, and long-range planning of the Laboratory.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's in Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor's in a chemical, physical, or biological science, or high school graduate or equivalent with successful completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and held the military enlisted occupation specialty of medical laboratory specialist (laboratory technician).
  • Certifications: Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technology (AMT), or Military Laboratory Specialist OR Medical Technologist (MT) or Health and Human Services (HEW).
  • Preferred: 1+ years of Laboratory Experience; 1+ years of Staff Technologist Experience.
