As a Postdoctoral Researcher at SWRI, you will be part of a dynamic team working on the SPICE instrument on Solar Orbiter. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct scientific research using data from the SPICE instrument, focusing on the characterization of temperature, density, mass flow, and composition in the solar atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:- Data Analysis and Interpretation: Work with the SPICE team to analyze and interpret SPICE data in combination with data from other Solar Orbiter instruments and Heliophysics missions to study the complex dynamic connection between the Sun and inner heliosphere.
- Research and Development: Participate in data reduction, analysis, modeling, and publication of scientific results from SPICE, as well as participate in SPICE observational planning, calibration, and assisting the community in the use of SPICE data.
- Collaboration and Communication: Serve as a Postdoctoral researcher working with other researchers at SWRI on the SPICE team, including participation in SPICE Consortium meetings, and the development of joint observing campaigns, planning & observation parameter trades, as appropriate.
- Presentations and Publications: Present results at Team Meetings and other international Scientific Meetings (e.g. AGU, EGU, AAS, etc.).
- Qualifications: Requires a PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy or an equivalent degree field. 2 years: Experience as a graduate student in Solar Physics, solar spectroscopy, and data analysis. Demonstrated knowledge in data reduction and analysis. Proficiency in Python, IDL/Solarsoft (or similar) is highly desirable. Good communication skills and be willing to work both independently and in a group setting.
