This position requires a comprehensive understanding of agronomy, including horticultural practices, integrated pest management, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the cultivation department and executive leadership.
- Oversee the daily operations and strategic initiatives of the cultivation team at the designated facility.
- Contribute to the development of agronomic strategies aimed at maximizing yield, enhancing return on investment, and fostering innovation in farming techniques.
- Establish and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with industry regulations.
- Guide managers in creating and implementing the cultivation schedule from propagation to harvest.
- Collaborate with facility leadership to formulate and execute the overall production timeline.
- Lead the design and execution of experimental trials to meet corporate objectives, documenting methodologies and outcomes.
- Analyze the impact of environmental factors such as soil, water, and climate on crop yield and quality.
- Work alongside laboratories to assess soil and tissue samples, providing recommendations for nutrient management.
- Review annual crop performance and suggest improvements to optimize practices and enhance productivity.
- Stay informed on industry advancements and evaluate the potential application of new scientific methods and products.
- Foster strong relationships with team members to share insights, develop best practices, and address operational challenges effectively.
- Manage flower inventory levels in alignment with production schedules and market forecasts.
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and industry standards.
- Align facility initiatives with the overarching business strategy and operational goals.
- Collaborate with data analytics teams to gather and analyze growth and environmental data for future cultivation practices.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing principles, including Six Sigma, to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
- Develop cost-reduction strategies across various operational aspects, focusing on labor, materials, and capital investments.
- Utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess and enhance operational performance.
- Promote a workplace culture that aligns with the company's mission and values.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Possess a thorough understanding of controlled environments, soil science, and pest management.
- Act as a core team member and subject matter expert in cross-functional improvement initiatives.
- Engage in all team meetings and discussions.
- Collaborate with educational institutions and industry experts to initiate research and address specific cultivation challenges.
- Manage vendor relationships and seek external support as needed.
- Be prepared to undertake various tasks on the farm, including those outside of the primary job functions.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with at least 10 years of experience.
- Possession of a valid pesticide applicator license in California.
- Experience with vertical cultivation systems, soil monitoring technologies, and LED lighting.
- Knowledge of advanced growing techniques, including micronutrient management and soil health.
- Ability to identify and manage plant diseases, pests, and other agricultural challenges.
