Job Overview

Mercantile Security Service is a locally-owned business that prioritizes personalized service. We have been serving in and around Dayton since 1901.

We provide uniformed security personnel to the Dayton and surrounding area. While we primarily observe and report, customer service and a smile are essential. Our team collaborates with you to support your needs. We offer full- or part-time positions, adapting to your schedule requirements. We take pride in working with veterans. If you are currently serving or recently retired, we encourage you to apply. Although experience in security is beneficial, we also provide training for those new to the industry.

Key Responsibilities

As a security officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of company property and the environment.

  • Protect and monitor company assets and spaces.
  • Watch security cameras to detect any suspicious activity within the environment.
  • Set alarms to alert in case of disturbances or emergencies.
  • Sound alarms or contact authorities (police or fire services) in case of emergencies.
  • Secure spaces and ensure the safety of individuals within the company environment.
  • Control and supervise entrance and exit points for both individuals and vehicles.
  • Warn people of consequences for breaking rules like loitering and trespassing.
  • Monitor employee exits to prevent theft of company properties.
  • Maintain written logs.
  • Provide assistance to employees and customers in a friendly and polite manner.
  • Carry out investigations and prepare reports on incidents or suspicious activities.
Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful as a security officer, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with a clean record (no more than four points).
  • Have your own transportation (not public).
  • Possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Pass a clean background check (no felonies, misdemeanors depend on charge, no theft, robbery, or burglary charges).
  • Pass a drug test.
  • Be able to walk for one hour twice during an eight-hour period.
  • Be able to stand for 25% of an eight-hour period (2 hours).
  • Have your own phone (with service, not wi-fi reliant) for communications.
Compensation Details

The estimated salary for this position is $15.50 - $16 per hour.
