About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Planner to join our team at the City of Spartanburg, SC. As a key member of our Planning Department, you will be responsible for contributing to our expanding planning initiatives and shaping the future of our city.

Responsibilities

  • You will work closely with the Planning Director to steer the strategic vision outlined in the comprehensive plan, focusing on equity and community benefits.
  • You will contribute to complex current planning projects, including zoning code rewrites, urban design guidelines updates, and development initiatives worth over $750 million.
  • You will have the opportunity to work on significant projects such as the minor league baseball stadium and surrounding mixed-use development.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in urban or regional planning, urban design, landscape architecture, or a closely related field is required.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible urban planning experience in multiple areas of practice, including zoning, urban design, public space planning, project implementation, and supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) is necessary.
  • A valid S.C. driver's license with no restrictions is also required.

Salary

The estimated salary for this position is between $70,636 and $90,064 per year, depending on experience.
