Director of Control Management Risk Assessment

At American Express, we're committed to empowering our colleagues and customers to achieve their goals. As a Director of Control Management Risk Assessment, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of our operations and maintaining the trust of our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective risk management strategies to mitigate operational risks across our business units.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and prioritize risks, and develop mitigation plans to address them.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to business units on risk management best practices and ensure that risk management is embedded in their day-to-day operations.
  • Develop and maintain risk dashboards and key risk indicators (KRIs) to monitor and report on operational risk trends and emerging risks.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes to enhance risk management and control effectiveness.
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of experience in operational risk management, with a strong understanding of risk management lifecycle activities.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with senior business and technical stakeholders.
  • Expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and operational standards.
  • Experience in the financial services industry, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: risk assessment, risk management, control monitoring, or risk reporting.

We offer a competitive salary range of $130,000 to $205,000 annually, plus bonus, equity (if applicable), and benefits. Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required, and we will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
