Optical Dispenser

As an Optical Dispenser at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in ensuring our patients receive exceptional vision care. Under limited supervision, you will measure pupil distance and bridgewidth, adjust eyeglass frames, and assist patients in selecting optical items that conform to their prescriptions and established procedures.

• Assist patients with optical selections, providing expert guidance on frame styles, colors, and shapes that suit their prescription and facial features.
  
• Recommend and display various eyeglass frames, ensuring compatibility with patients' prescriptions and facial features.
  
• Quote prices from fee schedules, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
  
• Measure and record frame, lens specification, and other related items, such as non-prescribed dark glasses and cleaning fluids.
  
• Examine glasses received from the laboratory to ensure conformity with prescriptions.
  
• Verify prescriptions with a lensometer and modify lenses to fit frames, adjusting frames to fit patients' facial features as needed.
  
• Repair and adjust lens frames as requested by patients, using standard hand tools and related equipment.
  
• Order or fabricate lost pairs of eyeglasses, utilizing automatic lens edging units, hand edgers, lens layout makers, and lens tinting units.
  
• Perform other duties as required, such as ordering optical supplies, assisting with periodic inventories, and responding to complaints regarding lens and frame fit.
  

• American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification, plus one year of recent experience or two years of equivalent experience under the direction of a Licensed Optician, Optometrist, or Ophthalmologist performing Optometry Dispenser work.
  

• Ability to use Humphrey Lens Analyzer, conventional lensometer, pupilometer, distometer, progressive lens measuring devices, hand edger, salt-pan, lens tinting unit, automatic pattern maker unit, automatic lens edging unit, and lens layout procedures.
  
• Ability to work effectively with the public and follow oral and/or written instructions.
  
• Ability to correctly measure for, prepare orders, and fit ophthalmic eyeglass lenses of all types, including cataract and progressive power lenses.
  
• Ability to adjust and correctly fit metal and plastic eyewear frames.
  

• This is a float position with varying scheduled hours. Required to travel to all optical and optometry locations. Will be required to work every Saturday.
