Job Description

The Town of Fountain Hills is seeking a skilled Building Permit Technician to join the Development Services Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for processing building permit applications, providing assistance to the public, and maintaining files and plans for active and completed building permits.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and process building permit applications and plans by assigning a permit number, calculating and collecting plan review fee, inputting data into the computer, and preparing documents for plan review.
  • Provide status information until issued and process completed permit applications and plans by preparing approved documents, calculating valuation and fees, inputting data into computer, contacting applicants, collecting permit and development fees, and issuing permits.
  • Provide information in reference to building codes and procedures to the general public, contractors, engineers at the counter and on the telephone, and if necessary, route them to the correct department.
  • Accurately file and maintain building permits, plans, and inspection tickets. Purge and dispose of old files as required by records retention policy.
Requirements
  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four year of high school or equivalency.
  • Minimum of 2 years customer service experience in a construction and office environment.
  • Building Permit Technician Certification required within the first six months of employment. Must be bondable.
  • Ability to read and comprehend permit applications, construction plans, and inspection tickets and building codes.
  • Ability to calculate permit valuations, plan review fees, permit fees, count money, calculate refunds according to building code.
